2016 wasn't a very good season for Leeds Rhinos let's be honest about it. From losing three legends at the end of 2015 to starting 2016 with a narrow defeat to Warrington Wolves and then suffering a severely heavy defeat to Widnes Vikings, it just didn't start clicking for the Rhinos until after halfway through the season but even then we were languishing at the bottom half of the table and it became apparent we were going to have to play in the Qualifiers but we came out top with wins which we needed to guarantee our status in Super League. I was very angry and very disappointed as I knew we had players who were capable of playing MUCH better than they were. The situation surrounding James Segeyaro who had signed a two year contract with the Rhinos didn't help after it emerged he wanted to break the contract and return home to Australia. (The saga is still continuing on that one!)
2017 has arrived and I'm sensing a much more positive atmosphere with the Rhinos. Pre-season went reasonably well, beating the likes of Hull KR and Featherstone and with new signings such as Jack Ormondroyd, Cory Aston and Matt Parcell and seeing young talent coming through, I sense a better season for the Rhinos is on the cards. With Danny McGuire leading from the helm with his experience along with Rob Burrow and Jamie Jones-Buchanan and with the brutal strength combined of Keith Galloway, Mitch Garbutt and Adam Cuthbertson along with the sheer speed of Ryan Hall and Kallum Watkins, I am looking forward to this season and it starts this Thursday (9th of February) which sees us away to St Helens and it should be a tasty clash. It always is and if we start the season well with a win, I am hoping it sets the tempo for the boys to push on and bring the trophies back to Headingley Carnegie.
This blog will be following each game and I will be putting the games into my own words and when I go to see the Rhinos, there will be photos to add to each blog post too. So I hope you will enjoy this and support the boys along with me. #COMEONYOURHINOS
